Sometimes the easiest way to teach Claude a process is to show it. With Record a skill you record your screen doing the task and Claude proposes a skill from what it saw.

Limited availability: Record a skill exists only in Cowork in Claude for Mac, on Pro, Max, and Team plans. Not in chat, not on Windows, not on Free or Enterprise. If the room isn’t all Mac, run it as an instructor demo.

Step 1 — Grant macOS permissions

Before recording, macOS will request two permissions:

  • Accessibility (to control mouse/keyboard).
  • Screen recording.

Step 2 — Start recording

Two entry points:

  • In the composer, "+" → “Record a skill”, or
  • Customize > Skills → “Add” → “Record your screen”.

Record with the microphone on to narrate context (what you do and why). Limit: ~10 minutes per recording (countdown warning at the 1-minute mark).

Step 3 — Review Claude’s proposal

When you finish, Claude proposes one of two things:

  • A NEW skill → Save / Dismiss buttons.
  • An update to an existing skill → Update / Dismiss buttons.

Expand “Content” to review what it captured before deciding.

Step 4 — Mind privacy

Tip
Privacy: video and audio are not retained; only a set of screenshots is kept inside the Cowork task. If you delete the task, those screenshots are removed.

Warning: everything visible on screen and everything you say is captured. Don’t show passwords, secrets, or sensitive data during the recording.
